Welcome to My Blog
Why read the Bible? We can take the analogy of a muster drill before a cruise. This is where the passengers receive instruction to save their life. Let me explain.
As far as I remember, the birth canal didn’t come with a muster drill before launching me into this life, and I’m guessing you didn’t receive your lifesaving instructions either.
Even more unsettling is this: many who lacked early guidance, from parents, teachers, or friends-have been left to navigate life’s rough waters without real hope. Without direction, they cling to self-made “lifesavers”: money, relationships, fame, success, physical perfection, influence, or sheer effort-desperately trying to keep their heads above water as they drift through life’s storms.
But God has given us a true lifesaving manual.
The moment we encounter this ancient, ever-relevant book, we arrive at a crossroads: will we dismiss it as outdated, or will we dive in and discover the life-saving wisdom within? This is not just a book-it is a beacon, guiding us out of the murky sea of human ideas and onto the solid rock of unshakable truth.
From the very first pages of Genesis, these holy words begin to work within us, helping us purge the mire we’ve unknowingly swallowed as citizens of a darkened world under Satan’s influence (Ephesians 2:2). None of us has escaped the pull of false lifesavers while neglecting God’s true rescue.
If you’re anything like me, you may ignore the Bible until every other solution to your problem has failed. Ironically, that’s often the perfect place to begin. In lifesaving, a lifeguard must wait until a drowning person stops thrashing about and surrenders before a rescue can succeed. The same is true for us.
We don’t need more noise from self-help strategies, human wisdom, or endless striving. What we need is simple: an open heart, a Bible, and the humility to admit that even the greatest human minds don’t have all the answers.
We have access to someone far greater than the Einsteins of this world. We have our Creator, who longs to guide us. Yet He will not force His way into our lives. Free will is His gift, and until we release our grip on self-reliance and human understanding, we will continue battling storms and settling for far less than what He intends.
So the question remains: are you ready to let go?
Are you ready to experience the abundant, unshakable life that only Jesus can give? Only He can open our eyes to the lies we’ve believed and lead us onto the straight path (Proverbs 3:5–6).
The Bible is not just a book, it is the divine rescue buoy that pulls us from the depths, steadies our steps, and sets us on a course of eternal purpose, better health, peace and joy (not happiness which is fleeting.)
Our life is safest in the hands of the only true Lifesaver: the Lord Jesus Christ. And we start a relationship with Him by reading His life story found in the most precious book in the world- the Holy Bible.
The muster drill is over.
Now, the journey begins. Read, surrender to the guidance and feel the peace that washes over your soul. We really have little control in this life. But God does, and it’s best to glide through life in His wake.
“He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.” —Psalm 40:2–3
