Do Miracles Happen?

Kingdom of God, Prayer

Filed In

Do miracles still happen today like they did in Jesus’ time? Absolutely—I’ve seen them firsthand in the operating room.

As a nurse anesthetist, I have a unique vantage point to witness the power of God and the effectiveness of prayer, especially in critical moments when seconds matter. In surgery, when complications arise and human ability reaches its limit, I’ve seen divine intervention unfold right before my eyes.

A Miraculous Moment in the OR

One incredible story of faith and divine intervention stands out to me. Although I wasn’t directly involved in this case, I heard about it from my colleagues, and it left a lasting impact on my faith.

A skilled neurosurgeon was operating on a teenage patient who had suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident. The goal was to remove a hematoma—an accumulation of blood pressing on a critical area of the brain. As the surgeon worked meticulously, he encountered a blood vessel that simply wouldn’t stop bleeding.

This surgeon tried every technique he knew to control the hemorrhage. He even called in another surgeon for assistance, but nothing worked. Finally, recognizing that he had exhausted every medical option, the surgeon made a bold decision—he stepped away from the operating table and asked the entire surgical team to pray.

He leaned his back against the wall, slid down to the floor, bowed his head, and prayed in silence for over ten minutes. In the high-stakes environment of an operating room, ten minutes of uncontrolled bleeding can change the outcome of the surgery drastically. But this surgeon believed with unwavering faith that God was the only one who could intervene.

When he finished praying, he re-scrubbed, re-gowned, and stepped back to the table. Miraculously, the bleeding had stopped. The entire team erupted in cheers—so loud that people outside the OR heard it. The surgery was completed successfully, and the young man made a full recovery.

Faith Unlocks Miracles Today

This remarkable event is a testament to the power of faith and prayer. The surgeon demonstrated what it means to fully surrender to God, and in doing so, he witnessed a modern-day miracle. The Bible reminds us of this powerful truth:

“For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” (2 Chronicles 16:9)

When we reach a breaking point—whether in health, relationships, finances, or other struggles—do we truly turn to God in unwavering faith? Or do we try to control everything ourselves? The Bible offers countless verses that encourage us to rely on the Lord in our moments of need:

“Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 124:8)

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)

“Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.” (Psalm 38:22)

What Are the “Bleeders” in Your Life?

We all face challenges—those persistent “bleeders” in our lives that seem impossible to overcome. Whether it’s a broken relationship, a health crisis, financial struggles, or emotional burdens, God invites us to trust Him completely.

“Jesus replied, ‘Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’” (Matthew 17:20)

Strengthening Your Faith

If you’re in a dire situation, let your faith be your foundation. Seek God through:

Prayer – Talk to Him daily, surrendering your worries and trusting in His plan.

Scripture – Find encouragement in the Bible, which is filled with promises of hope and strength.

Worship – Listen to uplifting Christian music, sermons, and podcasts that fuel your faith. A great song to start with is “We Won’t Be Shaken” by Building 429.

God has given us all the tools to know Him and experience His power. When we diligently seek Him, we open the door for His miracles to unfold in our lives.

Food for Thought,

Lisa
