Charlie Kirk’s Death and the Reality of Spiritual Warfare

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world…”
— Ephesians 6:12

The tragic and untimely death of Charlie Kirk has left many shocked and heartbroken. But beyond the grief and headlines lies a deeper truth: we are living in a spiritual war where darkness seeks to devour, divide, and destroy.

As Christians, we must be vigilant. Evil is real, and behind every horrific act lies an unseen spiritual enemy—Satan—who is constantly at work influencing hearts and minds.

Recognizing Satan’s Influence: Subtle and Severe

Satan’s influence isn’t always headline-worthy. Yes, it shows up in unspeakable acts of violence, but it also creeps into the everyday moments of our lives:

  • When we lose our temper with a loved one
  • When we speak harshly out of pride or frustration
  • When disrespect, bitterness or envy cause us to act out

Satan knows our weaknesses. He strikes where we’re vulnerable—tempting us to act in ways we later regret. But he is not the root cause of all human behavior. We still have a choice, and God has equipped us to stand strong.

Who Is Satan? A Fallen Angel

Before his fall, Satan was known as Lucifer, a beautiful and high-ranking angel in heaven. But his pride led him to desire God’s throne—and for that, he was cast out, taking one-third of the angels with him (Revelation 12:4).

These fallen angels now work as demonic forces, deceiving people and causing them to kill, steal and destroy wherever we let them enter our life.

But take heart—two-thirds of God’s angels remain, and they respond to the prayers of God’s people. Heaven is not outnumbered.

The Armor of God: Our Defense in the Battle

We were never meant to fight spiritual battles in our own strength. That’s why God gave us the Armor of God, described in Ephesians 6:13–18:

Helmet of Salvation

When we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior we have put on the helmet.

Belt of Truth

Knowing Scripture and believing it as the only sound foundation for our lives is placing the belt of Truth around our waist.

Breastplate of Righteousness

Living as Jesus taught and confessing sin regularly to stop the enemy from entering a weak area of our life.

Shield of Faith

Trusting God fully, and doing what He outlines in the Bible- even when it takes years to hear from God and receive an answer to a prayer. Obedience builds our faith.

Sword of the Spirit

Speaking and declaring God’s Word—the only offensive weapon in the armor.

Shoes of the Gospel of Peace

Walking in peace, not fearful or worrying, simply trusting that God is who He says He is and He will step in and rescue us in His timing.

Praying in the Spirit

Covering everything with Scripture based prayers. This is VERY IMPORTANT. Find a verse of Scripture that pertains to your life and pray that prayer twice a day outloud. The earth is God’s rule, in other words His government functions here for Christ followers. This is why the term “justice” is used oftentimes when depicting a prayer request.

6 And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly.” (Luke 18:6-8)

“Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground…”
— Ephesians 6:13

How to Fight Evil: Speak Scripture, Walk in Love

Fighting evil God’s way doesn’t look like confrontation. It often means standing on God’s Word when someone speaks against truth or acts in contradiction to Christ’s teachings.

Your greatest weapon? Scripture—spoken in love.

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”
— Romans 10:17

Even in the hardest conversations, quoting God’s Word can plant a seed that will grow in our opponents life. It’s not our job to change hearts. It’s our job to share the truth in love, and let God do the work.

Share the Gospel with Kindness

The most loving thing we can do for those walking in darkness is introduce them to Jesus—His love, His truth, and His finished work on the cross.

“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void…”
— Isaiah 55:11

“To slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.”
— Titus 3:2

Our Hope: Christ in Us

This world is dark. But for those who follow Christ, we stand on a powerful promise:

“Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.”
— 1 John 4:4

If you are a believer, memorize Scripture so you can lovingly speak it when the time comes. God’s Word never fails.

A Final Word: Prayers for the Kirk Family

To the family and loved ones of Charlie Kirk—my deepest sympathy. May the comfort, presence, and peace of God surround you in this time of loss. You are in our prayers.

To all readers:
Prayer, love, and Scripture—spoken in faith—are our most powerful weapons. Let us use them daily, boldly, and with compassion.

Food For Thought,

Lisa
