The Bible – Our Promise Land

Uncategorized

God described the Promise land as a place overflowing with milk and honey – a land of abundance not lack. It contained everything necessary for life. Today, our promise land is the Bible. It holds everything we need to live abundantly and teaches us how to overcome in every area of life.

In the Old Testament, God told the Israelites that the Promised Land of Canaan was theirs to claim. They simply needed to go in and conquer it. He assured them of victory- despite the formidable giants they were up against.

“If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them.” (Num 14:8-9)

Fast forward to the New Testament, Jesus stated that no matter how life appears, how many “giants” we have in life that are keeping us from God’s abundance, if we follow His teachings and walk in His ways we will experience the abundant life.

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”(John 10:10)

The abundant life is full of protection, abundance and peace- He promised this. But like anything worthwhile, it doesn’t come automatically, they had to seek it and if they did, they would find it.

That is why Jesus said:

“Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and everything else will be given to you” (Matthew 6:33)

In Noah Webster’s 1828 Dictionary, the word “seek” is defined as “to ask for” or “to endeavor to find.” This means actively pursuing God- seeking Him as our true source, studying His Word, and making a relationship with Him our priority. Everything in creation, even the wild lions, depend on God.

“The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God.” (Psalm 104:21)

These verses combine to show us that our primary work in life is not our careers or roles, but in seeking our needs from a relationship with God. Scripture is our daily bread – our true sustenance. It is the source of wisdom, peace and power for today and the future. Our task then, is to search Scriptures, to uncover and pull down the promises of God through prayer. Jesus taught His disciples to pray:

“Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”(Matt 6:10)

The Bible- Our Divine Toolkit

The Bible is more than a book, it is a divine toolkit. It holds solutions to our problems, the blueprint of our breakthroughs. It is our Promise Land, filled with blessings to ask for and claim through prayer.

Just as the Israelites once stood before the land of Caanan, we too face our own giants: fear and unbelief.  Do we trust God’s Word enough to pray day and night for our heartfelt requests, believing He will provide? Be aware however, God may make us wait until the last possible moment. Yet we can be certain, if we have met the conditions of the promise, we will receive if we do not give up!

Jesus described His divine provision in an analogy:

Look at the bird of the air they neither gather nor store into barns yet your heavenly Father feeds them.”(Matt 6:25)

Many interpret this passage as a lesson on finances: don’t be consumed by the pursuit of wealth. And that is true – if your job doesn’t allow for storing up large savings, college funds or a comfortable retirement, you can still trust your heavenly Father, your true Provider. Work diligently, trust God for your daily needs and let tomorrow worry about itself.

But Jesus’ words go deeper than money. He died so we could live abundantly – and abundance means far more than financial comfort. Ask anyone who has wealth: money is not capable of solving many problems. We need prayers answered in areas that money can’t touch – for healing, for a child who has strayed, for a marriage that is on the edge. We need hope, direction, restoration- we need God.

The Bible Our Prayer Source

Therefore, when we diligently read the Bible, we realize that our prayer life can be powerful when it is based on Bible promises. For instance:

“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”(Mark 11:23 NKJV)

When we have enough of the Word in us, we have filled ourselves with Jesus. (John 1:1) And when Jesus makes His home in us, our faith becomes rock solid. We can confidently speak to our mountainous health problems, “be thou removed and cast into the sea” and it will be done. We must remember” “greater is He who is in us than He who is in the world.”(1 John 4:4) If God lives within us He is far greater than any virus, disease or cancer. We can overcome!

If we feel any hesitation when we pray, it may be God revealing that something in our life is misaligned with His will. Our responsibility then, is to seek Him in prayer, asking where we may have strayed so we can realign ourselves with His purpose. This realignment positions us to receive the blessings He had promised- in His timing.

Let’s study Scripture like a treasure map- one filled with everything we need to live powerfully in this life and securely in the next. Because it truly is our map of today’s Promise Land!
