Words Are Powerful

“Words are powerful—the Bible says we are saved when we speak or confess outloud that Jesus as the Christ.”The Bible teaches in Romans 10:9-10 (NIV): “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” This powerful passage demonstrates that salvation for a life in eternity with Jesus, begins with both faith and an out loud confession.

Words Are Powerful In Shaping Our Lives

The Bible emphasizes the incredible power of our words in shaping our lives. In John 15:7, Jesus says, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” Abiding in Christ means meditating on His Word, memorizing it, and using a verse to pray for a particular outcome. The spoken Word of God holds divine power that can change circumstances. Many people speak what they currently have in their lives. “Thou art snared by the words of thy mouth.” (Prov 6:2) Instead, we need to agree with Scripture and speak what we desire to come into our lives. Faith must proceed sight. Scripture gives us many examples of faith producting it’s desired effect.

Jesus defeated Satan at the cross, therefore anything aligned with him: poverty, sickness, relational and spiritual death has no authority in the spiritual realm. Jesus eliminated their power through His victory. Now our job is to pray it down from heaven. in the spiritual realm by Jesus. “We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will.”(John 9:31 NIV)

Words Are Powerful To Unlock Divine Acts

Speaking Scripture is more than simply reciting words; it’s agreeing with and declaring that we believe. The Bible, aka the inspired Word of God is full of divine power. John 1:1-2 tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This means that we agree that Jesus Himself is the Word made flesh. Therefore if the Word was made into the man of Jesus, the Word can change our flesh- heal it, overcome obstacles our flesh is dealing with and so much more.

God’s Word is not simply a set of instructions—it is divine and transformational. The power of God’s Word becomes effective when we believe it in our hearts, follow it and speak it out loud, bringing Jesus into our situations. The Bible states: “For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, ‘Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea,’ and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he saith.”(Mark 11:23 KJV)

However, the key is belief. You can memorize and recite Scripture, but it will not bear fruit until you act on the Word. But how exactly do we get to the point where we can actually step out in faith and do what the Bible says? By reading it daily. Reading the Bible is taking Jesus into our bodies. As we discussed earlier the Word of God is God Himself. Meaning God is as good as His word. So by reading the Bible daily, drinking in His divine Words, we start to believe every word. When we believe it, we are believing that God will indeed do what He says He will do. We will receive that promised blessings we have been confessing and believing for.

Let’s look at the power of words as they relate to a story in the Bible. It is a story of a Shunamite woman who believed a man of God could bring her son back to life. I highly suggest that you read the whole story in your bible in 2 Kings 4:8-37.

The story is about a woman who didn’t have children. She was a godly woman and asked her husband to allow Elisha to be a guest at their home whenever he was in town. Elisha noticed that she didn’t have children and therefore asked what he could do for her. The woman didn’t ask for anything but Elisha decided she needed a son and not long after she conceived a son.

Years later, when the boy was a teenager, he became ill while helping his father and quickly died. When the Shunamite woman learned of it, she mounted a horse and left her husband saying “it is well.” She contained her immense distress and wouldn’t agree with the situation. She travelled to see Elisha the prophet- she knew this man of God could help her.

On the way, Elisha’s servant asked her if it is well. She said, “it is well.” This woman would not accept death from illness- death from illness is from Satan, natural death is of God. She would not agree that Satan had the last word. When she reached Elisha, the man of God, she bowed down and without saying a word, conveyed that she was very distraught and needed him to come to her home. Elisha did come to her home and brought her son back to life.

Why was this story included in the Bible, if not to encourage others facing similar situations? God doesn’t tease us by placing stories of hope and miracles in His Word, only to say they were meant for people in Bible times. No!! These faith filled miracles are still possible today for those who dare to believe. If we have faith, God can still move in powerful ways.

This story is one that separates the true believers from those that pick and choose what they believe. Do you believe that this could happen today? Have you done any research on the men of faith in history; Pastor Smith Wigglesworth, William J Seymore and his Azusa street revival. These were men of faith that stood on every Word of the Bible and because of their faith, the Holy Spirit moved mightily. Their faith and prayer healed people, and more than that—people came to know who Jesus Christ was, and still is.”

Words Are Powerful When We Memorize them.

We experience daily victory over our problems- not by simply believing, but also by speaking memorized verses of Scripture over our problems. This act begins to change our circumstances until it reveals itself in the natural.

“Many people have memorized Psalm 23 and recite it regularly, which is a powerful practice. When we speak God’s Word, we activate His promises and are lead to further obedience. Obedience brings blessings. Here’s the well-known passage from Psalm 23:

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Notice the last verse: “I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” This verse teaches us that by following Him, it will be as if we live in God’s house- that we are so near that our Scripture based prayers are always heard and always answered in God’s timing. Psalm 84:4 adds: “Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you.” Abiding with God means continually following Him, praising Him, and trusting Him through all circumstances.

Live According To The Powerful Word

To truly dwell with God is to live according to His Word. In John 14:23, Jesus promises, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my words. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. This verse speaks of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, who empowers believers to live in obedience. When God’s presence is within us, how can we be denied? Since we hear Him clearly due to His close proximity, and we choose to be obedient to His perfect way, we are blessed. Our promised blessings include deliverance from life’s challenges We, as followers of Christ and His commandments will dwell on mount Zion in the spiritual realm, this is the presence of the Lord. And we will have attained the abundant life and enjoy the inheritance of Jacob. (Isaiah 58:14)

Romans 8:28 reassures us: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” This verse is often misquoted, many people omit the last part “who have been called according to His. purpose.” When we are called, it is His idea, it is not of our choosing. We should read the Word, be obedient to it and ask what we might do for God. He will tell us and when He does, even if it is an untasteful type of service work- we must do it. If we do not, we are not obedient to the voice of God and this puts us out of His favor. So if you truly desire to be in the center of God’s will, doing the work God desires for you- pray and ask. But I would highly advise you to not ask unless you will be obedient.

Surrender To The Powerful Word of God

Daily salvation isn’t just a matter of prayer—it’s a result of surrender to the Word of God. This is a critical point: not everyone will overcome their daily struggles. It’s only when a believer decides to surrender their will to Jesus, follow His teachings, and live in obedience, that they experience the victory over life’s problems.

Many will enter heaven through their confession of faith in Jesus Christ. However, these same believers may struggle with daily challenges because they choose not to fully obey the Lord. This reality presents a choice: obedience leads to victory over life and death, while faith alone secures victory over death alone.

The Choice: Obedience To The Word or Faith Alone?

This is no small decision. We face a choice every day: we can choose obedience and experience daily salvation which is victory over our problems. Or we can choose faith alone, which secures our eternal salvation in heaven. The key to overcoming life’s struggles lies in obedience. God’s Word protects us and all the darts of the enemy will not come to fruition. As Scripture states: “Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”(Ephesians 6:16 NIV)

This act of shutting down Satan’s missles with our Words gives us victory over daily problems.
