God’s Lifesaving Manual

Kingdom of God

Filed In

As far as I remember, the birth canal didn’t prep me with a muster drill before launching me into this life. And I’m pretty sure you didn’t get your lifesaving instructions either. What’s even more unsettling is that many who missed out on early guidance—from parents, teachers, or friends—have been left to navigate life’s rough waters without solid hope. Lacking direction, they cling to self-identified lifesavers: money, relationships, fame, success, physical perfection, influence, or relentless effort—desperately trying to keep their heads above water as they drift through life’s storms.

But God has given us a true lifesaving manual. The moment we encounter this ancient, ever-popular book, we stand at a crossroads: Will we dismiss it as irrelevant, or will we dive in and discover the life-saving wisdom within? This isn’t just a book of old teachings—it’s a beacon that can guide us out of the murky sea of human ideas and onto the solid rock of unshakable truth.

From the very first pages of Genesis, these words begin working, helping us cough up the mire we’ve unknowingly swallowed as citizens of a darkened world under Satan’s influence (Eph 2:2). No one has escaped the lure of false lifesavers while ignoring God’s true rescue buoy.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably ignore the Bible until every other possible solution has failed you. And strangely, that’s actually the perfect place to be. In lifesaving, a lifeguard must wait until a drowning person stops thrashing, surrendering to the water, before a rescue can be successful. The same is true for us. We don’t need a therapist, a life coach, or a self-help guru to stay afloat. What we need is simple: an open heart, a Bible, and the willingness to admit that even the most brilliant human minds don’t have all the answers.

We have access to someone far greater than the Einsteins of the world—our Creator, who longs to step in and guide us. But here’s the catch: He won’t force His way into our lives. Free will is His gift to us, and until we unclench our fists—releasing our trust in human intellect and self-sufficiency—we will continue weathering life’s storms, settling for far less than what God has planned.

Are you ready to let go? To truly experience the abundant, unshakable life that only God can provide? Only He can open our eyes to the lies we’ve believed and guide us to His straight path (Prov 3:5-6). The Bible is not just a book—it’s the divine rescue buoy that pulls us from the depths, stabilizes us, and sets us on a course of true purpose.

Allow me—through God’s Word—to convince you to place your life in the hands of the only true Lifesaver: the Lord Jesus Christ.

This muster drill has ended, but the journey has just begun!

“He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.” —Psalm 40:2-3
